The WAFF - Who We Are
The Federation's primary objectives are:
1: To promote social interactivity, self-esteem and self-confidence among adult men and women, and especially among veterans, new and youthful amputees through recreational and competitive amputee football programs, and
2: To help member nations develop their programs, educate their publics on disability issues through sport, and to train their athletes for representation in elite international and World competitions - and in Paralympic competition when the sport achieves that status.
BeginningsThe Federation was formed at a world Congress in Brazil in 2005. Its founding members were Argentina, Brazil, England, Russia, Ukraine, the USA, and Uzbekistan.
In the few years since then the sport has exploded in growth with the Federation now including more than 30 national associations on five continents.
Easy to StartThat growth can be attributed to the fact
Amputee football allows those in "alternative configurations" to engage in the power, passion and spirit of the world sport.
Though designed for amputees, our Great Game is very fast and very physical - a true sport with rules based in FIFA Football.
The game can be played indoors or out, on any available surface.
In addition to the international 6 v 6 + keeper format, recreational play may also include 3 v 3, 4 v 4, and 5 v 5 formats - with the objective that anyone who wants to play should have he opportunity to play.
Amputee football encourages a sense of belonging, self-confidence and self-reliance in players, increasing their independence and productivity off the pitch, often reducing the need for agency or governmental support resources.
GovernanceThe Federation is governed by a Congress of Members, and operated on a day-to-day basis by an Executive Committee consisting of senior elected officers and the Chief of the Referee's Committee.
